Here I am writing how to colour the vest with plants. You can find how to felt the vest in my blog post „Felted vest, which can be worn in four different ways“.
For felting this vest I used only the natural materials like pre-felt, different fibers, 21 Mic merino wool, and the Gotland sheep locks.
For clouring you will need the alum stone, rusted nuts, and bolts, chains, the peels of onions, stone, salt, thermometer, gloves, scales and a dish.
At first, I made the fabric wet and let it soak in the alum stone solution for one hour to get the extra air out of the material. Then I placed everything I wanted to use like the peels of the onions and rusty nuts, bolts, and chains on one piece of the fabric. I covered it with the other piece of the fabric, rolled the pieces tightly and tied them together in a roll.
I put some water into the pot so that the fabric was covered with water and heated it up to 60 C. I dissolved 12 gr-s of alum stone with a small amount of water, added 2 Tbls of salt and poured the solution into the pot. You can use a stone to keep the fabric under the water. I heated the fabric to 70 C and let it calm down slowly. On the next day, I rinsed the fabric and let it dry.
With finishing work, I straightened the edges by stretching them with ironing with steam. After that, you can decorate the vest as you wish.
The felted vest is made from pure natural wool and coloured with natural materials. The vest keeps your body warm and protects you against the cold.
